Snapshut is a new and exclusive brand, offering a range of art‐inspired designs printed on high quality bamboo T‐shirts. While snapshut T‐shirts are all about the funky and bold minimalist designs, there is also some method behind the madness. Here is some more information on why we use bamboo.
At snapshut, we love bamboo clothing because it has a light feel, almost like silk, but with the practical advantage of being machine washable. It is durable and strong, yet super soft and comfortable to wear.
It’s hypoallergenic and naturally anti‐bacterial, and what’s more, it is also one of the most eco‐friendly fabrics available today.
Bamboo is a sustainable and renewable resource as the bamboo plant, a type of tropical grass, is selfreplenishing.
The plant has an extensive rooting system that grows four to six new shoots a year, naturally replenishing itself.
Bamboo is also the fastest growing plant on earth, and is therefore highly renewable. The type of bamboo used for making fabric, commonly known as Moso, grows at a rate of several feet a day and can reach a mature height of 75 feet in just 45 to 60 days.
In addition, bamboo possesses an antibacterial and bacteriostatic bio‐agent called ‘bamboo kun’, which prevents bacteria from cultivating on it. As a result, fewer pesticides and fertilizers are required in the cultivation of bamboo, and it is 100% biodegradable.
All this means that bamboo textiles are one of the most sustainable and eco‐friendly fabrics available.
So, bamboo clothing is less harmful to the environment than convenPonal fabrics, but
it’s difficult to believe that tall, hard canes of bamboo can actually become so,
comfortable clothing.
As bamboo is a grass, although the culm wall is hard, the leaves and inner pith can be pulped and processed into bamboo fibre. – The first pulping creates a thick pulp that is then crushed and mixed with caustic soda, a low‐impact chemical, to leave a very fine pulp. The next stage of the process is to spin this pulp into thin fibres, which are later spun into bamboo yarn to be woven into bamboo fabric.
The resulting fabric is durable, incredibly soft, and carries many unique properties from the bamboo plant itself.
Bamboo fabric retains the plant’s natural antibacterial qualities, which means that clothing made from bamboo will keep you fresher and odour‐free for longer than clothing made from other conventional fabrics.
Bamboo clothing is also highly breathable. Compared with cocon and other comparable fabrics, bamboo garments are typically up to 2 degrees cooler in warm weather. Bamboo garments are also quick to absorb moisture, and are reported to cut out many harmful UV rays.
Bamboo therefore provides us with ultra comfortable and eco‐friendly garments which, when coupled with snapshut’s bold designs, allow you to stand out from the crowd in a more subtle fashion.
Snapshut T‐shirts are made up of a blend of 70% bamboo and 30% organic cocon. This mix ensures that our garments are super soR and have excellent drape, yet they are sturdy enough to hold the bold line prints that snapshut is all about.
GIVING BACK -- We are big believers in giving something back, and so we pledge to donate a percentage of the profits from the sale of our bamboo T-shirts to charitable organisations.
We hope to involve our stockists and customers in this process by inviting them to nominate a charity to receive the funds. We will soon be selling our bamboo T-shirts through innovative new fashion e-portal, Touch2Give -- http://www.touch2give.com -- which will be launching in the next few weeks!!
